The Earl of Wessex attended a business breakfast for 150, hosted by the British Slovenian Chamber of Commerce (BSCC). The discussion, skilfully moderated by the BSCC Acting President Alexander Paine, focussed on challenges faced by young people in today’s economic climate. Olympic Skier Petra Majdič, film director Mitja Okorn and IT entrepreneur Miha Žerko had an energetic debate with breakfast guests, outcomes of which will be discussed at the Young Bled Strategic Forum in September, at the MFA’s flag-ship foreign policy conference. HRH noted points made by the panel and 75 young (18-30) participants, and drew on these in a 10-minute speech at the end, building on the content and humour of the debate, summarising key points and linking these to his main theme of how the International Award helps to equip young people with skills beyond formal education in preparation for the work-place. His speech received rapturous applause; many Slovenian business people said this was the best breakfast they had ever attended.
